Melbana Energy reports Cuba drilling is ahead of schedule

Melbana Energy (ASX:MAY) provided a positive operational update from its Block 9 field in Cuba, reporting its Amistad-2 well drilling is slightly ahead of schedule. The Amistad-2 surface hole was drilled to 327 meters, where oil impregnation of samples and oil-sheen were noted during the drilling of this non-reservoir section. The primary objective of the Amistad-2 production well is to maximally intercept the Unit 1B oil reservoir, intending for it to become an additional online producer. Following the initial drilling, the surface casing has been cemented in place, and the first wellhead section with the BOP stack has been successfully installed and tested. The company stated that the shallower Unit 1A oil reservoir, which is the next drilling target, is considered a viable future production target in its own right.
